Verandah 24

Postby Deb on Wed Sep 30, 2009 5:36 pm

Hi Everyone,

I recently received an email saying come back to the forum & figured I had been popping in to check on new posts but because there weren't many I didn't post anything either. I now realise if we're all doing that, then nothing will happen here. So I thought I'd post about the Verandah 24 launch & my prize. I went out on a limb and entered a short story (not my usual thing, I mostly write poetry) which won the Editor's Choice award. I was gob smacked when one of the editors, Claire, called to let me know. I think my comment was, "But I was just pleased to be published!"

I don't remember much from the launch, so wracked with nerves about reading a piece of my story was I! No, really it was a lot of fun and wonderful to hear the other prize winners read pieces from their works. I also had the opportunity to meet (in the flesh) one of my lecturers from my completely online grad dip.

Thanks again to Deakin's Verandah team for such a wonderful opportunity.

Cheers,
Deb

Ooh, congratulations Deb!!

I also attended the launch.I didn't know what to expect before I went (not having been to a launch before) but I thought it was good. I too liked hearing people read out bits of their pieces. I don't remember anyone looking too nervous so you must've hidden it well :)
