1. Welcome to DeScribe - Deakin's Creative Writing Society. Although this started as a university group, we welcome writers from anywhere, especially Holmesglen's diploma course.
2. Minority bashing will not be tolerated. If you are discussing a character who is racist, sexist, homophobic etc, make sure you make it clear you are talking about the character's POV.
3. Try to be polite and constructive when referring to other members and their writing. No matter how good you get, everybody starts somewhere small.
Similarly, don't bag out your lecturers/ tutors too much. Chances are they will read your post, especially if you use their full name (who hasn't googled their own name yet?), and it won't take a genius to connect your witty account pseudonym to a real Deakin/ Holmesglen student. Do you really want that lecturer to know what a prick you think they are before they mark your essay?
4. Please be civil. Don't argue ... debate. No flamewars. No drama queens.
5. Don't get weird and cyberstalk. And don't help the weird cyberstalkers by posting surnames, phone numbers or addresses, or we'll send a mod around with a balaclava and a rubber chicken.
6. Please keep your language and grammar tidy. Sure, you can swear, but isn't it more polite to type f**k than fuck? We've heard it a million times already. Also, this board isn't a mobile phone. Posts that 'read' OMG DID U RD DAT BK ITS SOOO FKNG BORIN are going to get deleted by the mods on general principles.
7. We've changed our minds about workshopping on the site...so #7 is now: We get to change our minds about stuff.
8. Try not to violate copyright - remember the 10% rule.
9. Don't image leech off other sites. Upload the image on an image hosting site first (Photobucket, Photobasement). Think twice about including images that may be deemed offensive, and please keep posted images to a reasonable size.
10. Four words: don't be a dickhead. The admins and mods reserve the right to remove or alter posts and threads at any time for any reason. Mostly, that reason will be a breach of guideline 10.
We also reserve the right to suspend, restrict or completely block user accounts. If this does happen, you'll always have the right to a reply.
Now you've got through that, go post something and have fun.
