Editors - Verandah Literary Journal - October 31st

Postby Marmalade on Tue Oct 21, 2008 1:40 pm

Hi all,

Verandah 24 is searching for editors.

There are a couple of faculty requirements: applicants must be enrolled in the BA (Professional and Creative Writing) - course code A316 - and must be third-year equivalent in 2009.

If this is you, have a gander at the attached flyer and apply. I was an editor this year, and seriously - it was occasionally frustrating and hard work, but I have learnt so much over the course of the year about writing and publishing. If you want a toehold in the publishing industry, this is your chance:

Editorial positions available.

Deakin’s literary journal, Verandah requires editors for Verandah 24 (2009).

These part-time, volunteer positions are a fantastic opportunity to learn every angle of small press publishing, and give writing students looking to work in publishing invaluable practical experience to add to their resumes.

You will work in a small team to produce Verandah 24 from conception to launch: securing funding; deciding on themes and design; soliciting, selecting and editing submissions; working with contractors such as printers and designers; and launching the journal at the 2009 Melbourne Writers’ Festival, amongst many other tasks.

The position involves varying amounts of work. Much of the time it is flexible and light (less than one day a week), however at certain times of the year, such as the pre-launch phase, candidates must be prepared to juggle their university, work and life commitments with a decidedly higher workload.

Please note that these positions are only open to students studying a BA (Professional and Creative Writing, or course code A316), who will be third-year students in 2009.

Further information and selection criteria are available at:

Register your interest by sending a resume and cover letter to:

by Friday, October 31st 2008. Interviews will be held in November.
