What do you write about?

It takes inexperienced writers some time to find out how they can best write. Tell them about your writing process. How often do you write? Where? At what time of day? Give them some ideas of what works for you.

What do you write about?

What kind of themes and topics often crop up in your work? I've heard that some of the strongest work and strongest bodies of work come from people who explore the same themes continually throughout their creative careers. Wish I could say "O yes, all my works explore the dialectic of poverty and its power to destroy, recreate, reveal and obscure humanity, through reducing man to his basest animal form"... but not really.

I find I've written a lot about dependence and loneliness. So far most of my stuff has been of the human drama variety, rather than any genre as such, but I'm hoping to write a science fiction piece this year. Hope I can pull it off. Again, though, it'll be about loneliness.

I typically use the same themes and such.

My typical themes:

Heroes, and acts of heroism
Love, I know lame, but truly inspiring
Identity
Destiny, fate
Freedom

I like coming of age, and most of my stuff reflects that. I find it the most appealing and interesting time of a persons life. I also like politics and political under currents, especially anti-religious themes.

I write satirical fables, stream-of-consciousness rubbish, wordless poems, gibberish wordplay and angry stories about my friends without them knowing it's about them.

I also have a film script in progress which will feature the 2-man-band I'm in and all the stupid stuff we've always wanted to do on stage, but couldn't find a good enough reason to do it.
