Quite simply a disgrace to the Indiana Jones franchise. It was appauling. What the fuck was ET doing in this film? Spielberg hasn't made anything good since Schindler's List. He should retire, or stop making horse shit. And Lucas is useless, what has he done since coming up with the original idea for Star Wars and Indiana? NOTHING!

I've got a little flick called Saving Private Ryan that says you're wrong about Spielberg. Munich was also pretty handy work.

The thing with Spielberg is his films (especially the trio of sci-fi: A.I., Minority Report, War of the Worlds) show so much promise at the start, but he hamstrings himself with sloppy, sentimental endings which are only becoming worse the older he gets. Did War of the Worlds actually have an ending? I remember coming out of that all confused, like we missed a reel of the movie.

Lucas, on the other hand, dropped his pants and took a big, steaming, Jar-Jar Binks-shaped shit on my childhood dreams, and deserves no mercy.

@Marmalade: The ending for War of the Worlds was: The aliens were eventually weakened by the bacteria in our atmosphere, so shields got down and the military could blow them up. In other words, the lesson of the story is: Hide out till the aliens are on Earth long enough, then sneeze on them. They'll just die.
I was sobbing buckets at the end of A.I.. I thought Minority Report was pretty good and, I've no idea why, I have no impression of the ending for War of the Worlds.

For me, Indy 4 was okay. Not really keen on the whole alien sci-fi idea, but that's 'cuz I'm so used to the whole archaeology theme.

Is it me, or does the Crystal Skull look like an unfinished prop from Alien? During the part Indy, Marion, Mac, Oxley, and Mutt were looking at the paintings on the wall (after they got into the temple), I was half-expecting a face-hugger to jump out of the shadows and attach itself to John Hurt's face as he was holding up the skull. Then everyone around him could say, "Oh no, not again."

Another quibble: Didn't Indy's father drink from the Holy Grail at the end of The Last Crusade? Then why is he dead? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought drinking from the Grail grants everlasting life. That's why Donovan and the Nazis wanted it.

For some weird, random reason, I saw parallels between this movie and The Mummy. Mac kept going back for the gold, just like Jonathan and Beni did in The Mummy, and Indy tried to help Mac at the end, just like Rick did with Beni.

Nothing against Shia LaBeouf, but if George Lucas writes him as the lead in Indy 5, I'm boycotting the franchise.

I found Indy 4 a bit of a let down compared to its previous benchmarks, the whole theme of archaeology escaped the movie.

I was hoping that Shia would take over as the lead, as we saw from Indy 4 Harrison Ford just seems to be getting too old for this stuff, Shia is after all portrayed as a 'Jones'

Lets just hope they come up with a better story for the next movie

Well, now that you mention it, it'll probably be ages (seriously, 20 years between Indy 3 and 4?!) till the next one, so Shia taking over is pretty much inevitable. But as the movies ARE usually titled Indiana Jones and the _____, Shia being the lead would make it a spin-off, which is something I'm not really looking forward to.
