Do you want to be an author?

Yes, I'm going to write more books than Barbara Cartland. You watch.

Sure, I want to have something published one day, but I also want to be able to afford basic groceries, so I've got a "real job" in mind.

No. Editing maybe - something in the publishing industry - but not writing.

When I grow up

Postby tatterdemalion on Sat Apr 19, 2008 10:24 pm

This might seem like a silly question to pose to members of a writers forum, but here goes:

What do you want to be when you grow up?

It's not really so silly considering that most of us are very unlikely to be writing as our primary source of income - and I'm personally not sure whether I want to be a writer.

I'm contemplating something in the film business, if not screenwriting then perhaps producing or art direction. I like directing but I haven't the Personality (note big P).

How about "You'll write and have a career on the side" as an option?

ps nice avatar. You're going to have to explain to me on Tuesday how you got one that size past the stupid restrictions.

It won't let me edit the poll!
Grrr.

And, I'm not sure because I tried pretty much exactly the same image a while ago and it wouldn't load. But basically, greyscale images are smaller files, and it's an extremely low quality jpeg.

Well, I chose the second option although it does feel a bit like cheating since, even though I refuse to believe I've 'grown up', it is what I'm actually doing right now.

Writing is my hobby, interest, passion, sanity, outlet but it is not my career...

Cheers,
Deb

Writing's only one of my hobbies, so I'd get too bored doing it as a career methinks. Definitely would be something special to get a piece published one day though.
